THIS HEART OF ICE - VIDEO INSTALLATION The future of water / Surface Tention Exhibition
Tom's video installation 'This Heart of Ice' is currently on display at the Science Gallery in Dublin as part of the Future of Water/Surface Tension exhibition. The artwork is showing a beating, melting heart made of ice, alluding to 'the fragile existence and vitality of ice in a world where the polar ice caps are slowly diminishing through a cyclical process'.

Scissors directed and produced the latest music video for Shiv-r. A dark but playful execution makes use of multiple old wooden frames to blend different scenery. The shoot took place over one evening in a studio in Sydney.

SHIV-R - PARASITE (REPOSSESSION) Direction / Design / Video / Production: Scissors
Scissors produced this video clip for Shivr's smash hit Parasite. We filmed live bugs and small insects under a microscope with a special camera, then distorted the footage slightly to produce an interesting visual experience on a micro-level.
THE SCISSORS IDENTITY Design / Identity / Print / Video
Scissors has a new identity, crowned by a brand new logo. A simple typographic treatment indicates the presence of a pair of scissors without actually showing them. The logo is then stamped with ink to various collateral that highlights a tangible and crafty aspect of the Scissors collective.
THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN LIVE DATA APP -CANNES 2011 ENTRY Art direction / Concept / Digital / Agency: Ogilvy & Mather
The official iPad application for the Australian Open allows users to explore a smorgasbord of live data-feeds in an interesting and engaging way. Icons representing scores, tweets, stats, photos, etc. are constantly updated with real-time data on an endless canvas. There is also an autograph function that let tennis stars such as Nadal and Federer sign their names directly on the iPad using their fingertips. The application became the most purchased worldwide in the sports category, and was named the "iPad app of the month" for January 2011. It is the Ogilvy & Mather's official entry form Sydney into Cannes 2011.
SLEEP NOW - MUSIC VIDEO Direction / Design / Video / Production
Scissors were asked to direct and produce a video clip for the internationally awesome band Angelspit. It is the Master & Margarita meets industrial punk, with a lot of distortion reflective of Angelspit's frantic music. Shot over 2 days, the production of Sleep now involved building an enormous paper city backdrop inspired by 1930's style Russian Constructivism combined with animation and some amazing make-up and costumes.
INTERACTIVE TWEET BOARD- THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN 2011 Art Direction / Concept / Digital / Agency: Ogilvy & Mather
For the Australian Open 2011, an interactive online experience was created that allows for users to explore the myriad of comments made daily about the tournament in a visually engaging and playful way. The graphics are all built up from live data. To explore a certain topic, a tag can be selected from the bottom of the banner. The module will then pull in relevant comments from a live data feed, and display them as a cluster of floating particles. The user can then interact with the particles to have live comments revealed to them. The experience was placed in many of the country's leading online publications, such as the Herald Sun and the Australian.
Scissors is delighted to cooperate with Lunettes Rouges, France’s most widely-read art blog, part of Le Monde, written by Marc Lenot. Scissors is designing, adding to and maintaining the English version of the blog as well as providing weekly translations, conducted by Miss XS. THE SYDNEY INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION FESTIVAL 2010 Design, Identity, Print, Video
As per previous year, Scissors was again commissioned to create the complete identity, branding and design for the Sydney International Animation Festival 2010. The main theme for the festival was Carnival and Origami, referencing Muybridge’s famous photographic series of a horse running in a playful and simple way.

A video clip promoting IBM's involvement in the Australian Open 2010. This short video clip, produced by 3D powerhouse Collider, is playing with data visualisation, bringing a torrent of different symbols together to form a floating tennis ball built up by data. This graphic was also used at the French Open 2010 in Paris.
THE MAGIC WALLPAPER PROJECT Art, Design, Digital, Video
The Magic Wallpaper project explores the notion of wallpaper through an interactive medium. It has been exhibited at the Grid Gallery, Australia's first outdoor public digital gallery, and also as part of the fringe festival at Plump gallery, where it picked up an award for best visual artwork. This projects aims to explore the relationship between the very tiny, and the infinite scalability associated with science, nature and wallpaper.
THE SYDNEY INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION FESTIVAL 2009 Design, Identity, Print, Video
The complete identity for the inaugural Sydney International Animation Festival 2009. The work for the festival includes a logo, graphics, trailer, poster, print collateral; basically the lots. The concept for the festival was to use an Emu's egg giving birth to a gang of feisty animated characters.
PORTRAITS FROM THE EDGE - JON LEWIS PHOTOBOOK OF THE YEAR 2011 Design / Concept / Print
Scissors designed the photobook - Portraits from the edge - by Jon Lewis. This photographic series depicts residents of Kiribati, a small island nation in the Pacific, where Johnny spent 8 months as part of the community in 2008. Sadly, as water levels around the world rise, Kiribati will eventually perish and its inhabitants will have to relocate to other nations. The book displays a very personal side of the islanders, providing precious insights into their everyday lives. Scissors also completed the exhibition design for the series, as it was shown at various locations around Australia. The photobook became the portrait photobook of the year at the 2011 HeadOn festival, Australia's biggest phototography festival.
